Knee Replacement
Knee Replacement
Dr Christopher Vertullo
During your consultation Dr Vertullo will discuss your options for your arthritic knee. Often patients have alternatives before knee replacement, and many patients are not quite severe enough to warrant replacement. Dr Vertullo discusses who should, and should not consider knee replacement on this video .
All patients can benefit from non-operative options before knee replacement, and for many joint resurfacing techniques with osteotomy be considered.
If you are over 60 years of age, and all your osteoarthritis is in the medial compartment, you could consider a unicompartmental or partial knee replacement.
Dr Vertullo uses a Gender Specific Total Knee Replacement for women. Its design is altered to fit a females anatomy by being narrower in design.
Over 95% are also candidates for high- flexion knee replacement that are mobile bearing. These allow great flexion than standard knee replacements.
Most patients are candidates for minimally invasive surgery, which involves a smaller incision than usual. Dr Vertullo uses a special post operative pain relief protocol that minimises pain after the surgery.
The surgery involves shaping the ends of the femur & tibia to accommodate the replacement. Part of this process will involve correcting any knock-knee or bowing.
